Flat world map

The same EPIC imagery unwrapped with an equal-area projection, keeping the relative sizes of regions more faithful than a Web Mercator world map.

Latest available date

Move the slider to load another available EPIC observation date, or press Play for a chronological animation that loops continuously with a new crossfade about every second. Several upcoming maps are preloaded to keep the motion smooth.

Waiting for the daily EPIC composite…

The 360° surface is a daily mosaic, not one simultaneous photograph. It joins overlapping EPIC frames captured as Earth rotated and softly extends the small polar fringe outside DSCOVR’s view. The metadata and original NASA link describe the latest source frame. “Latest” means the newest set currently published by NASA, which can arrive after its capture date.
